I am no longer tossed about by a new model, or by a setup that has grown. What I kept watching to the end was only 1 unit: what comes out costs more than what goes in. The series "The Art of Not Chasing" is the record of building that state 1 mechanism at a time, and this article is the finale. And since the series ends here, it is also the last article across the 6 series.

There is one thing I have to confess.

What has tossed you about most is this series

It is not the AI, and not a new model. Over 6 series, I went on pulling you along with 3 devices.

① I revealed afterward that the title was a lie

The finale of series 2 says, "The title is a lie." Series 3, article 11 begins with "I could not write the article this title promises." The finale of series 1 is "I told the same lie over and over."

Each of them reaches only someone who has read that article to the end.

② In the next-time preview, I sent you on to the next without giving you the answer

The pattern of the preview is the same across all 6 series. Say the conclusion of the next article outright first, but do not write how.

Every time, the reader was handed nothing but the reversal and sent on to the next.

③ I confessed, and then turned the premise over

"The truth is, I do a lot of telling" (the finale of series 3). "I do check, in all 5 articles" (the finale of series 4). "I do experiment, in all 9 articles" (the finale of series 5).

What is placed at the end of a series reaches you only after you have read the whole of that series. In this series I put it at the head of the articles as well (articles 2, 7 and 8).

I counted

I counted them again from the articles themselves.

[observed] Scope: 64 articles
[observed] Devices that tossed you about: preview 60 articles / confession 9 places / "the title is a lie" 3 articles

How they are counted is fixed in a script (a paragraph whose line starts with "next time" or "the next series" / "there is one thing I have to confess" and 4 other phrasings / "the title is a lie" and 2 others. Each of them counted 1 per article). This article itself is not counted. That is because if the parts I quoted in order to line them up again were counted too, the number would grow the more I write.

Of the 60 previews, not 1 of them writes how. This is the total amount of pulling across 6 series.

And you were tossed about by it.

I was tossed about too. Because I decided the title first, there are articles where what I measured did not fit the title. In those cases I wrote "it missed" into the body, not into the title.

What I stopped doing across 6 series

SeriesWhat it erasedHow it erased it
1 Not readingThe AI's outputput it into a shape you do not have to read
2 Not listeningThe AI's proposals and judgmentsput it into a shape you do not have to weigh up twice
3 Not tellingThe human's inputput it into a shape you do not have to say
4 Not checkingChecking itselfput it into a shape you do not have to decide on the spot
5 Not runningRunning things in order to find outreplaced it with problems whose answer is known in advance
⭐ 6 Not chasingThe judgment of which one to useput it into a shape where you look only at how much is going where

In all 6, the title of the series is the negation of "something I do." Among the article titles there are also 2 with "not letting it" (the art of not having it reviewed midway / the art of not letting it give up), but those were about my not cutting in and my not folding things up. Only this finale is different. "Not being tossed about" is the negation of a reaction to something that comes from outside.

This is not a case of breaking the pattern. It is only that the order came out that way. Once I had erased 6 acts of my own, there was nothing left for the outside to toss about.

Even when you are tossed about, what you put down stays

This is what "the art of not being tossed about" actually is. It is not a story about becoming a person who does not get tossed about.

I have been tossed about for 6 series' worth. Tossed about by the titles, tossed about by the previews, and tossed about by the numbers I put out myself. 3 times I tried to fold it up with "there was no difference," and all 3 times it turned over.

Even so, not 1 of the mechanisms I put down has gone away.

When you are tossed aboutThe mechanisms you put down
⚠️ The title was a lieyou end up reading it again⭐ go on running as they are
⚠️ The preview pulled you alongyou end up waiting until the next article⭐ go on running as they are
⚠️ A new model came outyou end up weighing up a switch⭐ fail at the same place on either model

⭐⭐⭐ Not being tossed about does not mean being unshaken. It means that even while you are being tossed about, what you put down goes on running.

So what you take home is not my conclusion. It is the procedure placed at the end of each article, and your own numbers that came out of it.

The answer was written in the finale of series 1

In the finale of series 1, this is printed.

The art of "not reading" stands on top of that structure. Rather than reading the AI's output and being tossed about by what it says (told something is missing, you add a rule; told it failed, you read it again), you change what arrives at the moment of deciding.

"Being tossed about" had already been named as the thing to negate by the finale of series 1. I was only erasing it 1 at a time, over 6 series.

You change what arrives at the moment of deciding. All 6 series were a restatement of that 1 line.

The conclusion

What I erased over 6 series is 6 acts. What is left is only the mechanisms I put down, and the numbers they produce.

I still get tossed about. When something new comes out I go and look, and when the numbers are not what I thought, I am at a loss. What is different is that my hands no longer stop while that is going on.

And do not be tossed about by this series either.

The numbers written here are all from my environment, my task, my denominator.

You will not know your own numbers until you count them.

The procedures are placed at the end of all the articles.
